For the duration of her final semester at Concordia, Josephine worked alongside a group of peers in her Public Relations class to help a local non-profit with their strategic communication and public relation needs. The group completed three main projects: a company S.W.O.T analysis, a promotional brochure, and a crisis communication plan. They held monthly meetings with their client based out of Moorhead, MN to ensure the work they were doing was furthering the company's mission and would be useful to them in real-world application outside of the class project setting. Josephine took the skills she was learning in her Strategic Communication and Public Relations class and applied them to her behind the scenes work as a member of the Concordia College Forensics Team. Since all competition happened virtually this year, Josephine created a couple websites to help streamline the online tournament process; one for all the speech teams in Minnesota to use for their state tournament and one for all the teams in District 4 to use for the last qualifying tournament before nationals. These websites consist of graphics created by Josephine, resources for coaches, judges, and competitors, and competition room zoom links that were accessible throughout the duration of the tournaments. Additionally, Josephine became a collaborator on creating content for her speech team's Facebook and Instagram Pages. She also wrote a press release that the college used to help celebrate the team's showing a the AFA-NST in April. During her senior year of college, Josephine was a First-Year Transition Leader and part of this role required her to send out monthly newsletters to her students. She created a total of 4 newsletters for her students over the second half of the school year, informing them about upcoming events, dates, and campus life reminders. For her Integrated Marketing Communications class, Josephine was asked to create a hypothetical business the bulk of the course work. She ran a 6 week social media campaign for this business and was the sole creator behind all content posted across a various number of platforms. This is a writing sample from Josephine's 2019-2020 Persuasive Speech. She competed with this piece and qualified it for the American Forensic Association (AFA) National Tournament. The event description for a persuasive speech is as follows:
"An original speech by the student designed to inspire, reinforce, or change the beliefs, attitudes, values or actions of the audience. Audio-visual aids may or may not be used to supplement and reinforce the message. Multiple sources should be used and cited in the development of the speech. Minimal notes are permitted.
